Woody
BLACK OUD
Oud with the volume down. Saffron and cardamom open it warm rather than loud, patchouli grounds the middle, and the sandalwood arrives before the oud does.
The inspiration
Oud has a reputation for being difficult. This is not the fragrance that earned it.
Saffron and cardamom open warm and slightly medicinal, the spice reading dry rather than sweet. Patchouli is the only thing in the heart, which is unusual and gives the middle a plainness that suits it. Sandalwood and oud finish together, and the sandalwood gets there first, softening the oud before it can announce itself.
There is very little in it and nothing wasted. Black Oud suits people who like oud and dislike being announced by it.
