HAVANA
Coconut, ginger, clove. It smells like the inside of a wooden box left too long in the sun, which is a better thing than it sounds.
The inspiration
Coconut in perfumery usually means sunscreen and holidays. Here it is dry, and the ginger underneath it makes sure of that.
Clove and cedar hold the middle and give the fragrance a spine it would otherwise lack. What could have been a sweet tropical accord instead reads woody and slightly medicinal. Benzoin and cistus close it, resinous and warm, the sort of warmth that comes off wood rather than off skin.
Havana is not a beach. It is a room with the shutters half closed and the wood still warm.
