RUBIS
Vanilla usually turns up at the end. Here it opens, with coconut beside it, and what follows is drier than either of them suggests.
The inspiration
Vanilla is a base material. It is heavy, it evaporates slowly, and it normally arrives last. Rubis puts it first.
Vanilla and coconut open together, warm and close to the skin from the very start, which makes the fragrance feel finished before it has begun. Then palo santo comes through the middle, dry and resinous, and pulls the whole thing away from dessert. White musk closes underneath, barely there.
The inversion is the whole idea. Rubis smells at the beginning the way most fragrances smell at the end, and then keeps going.
