The inspiration
There is thyme in this, which is unusual enough to be worth saying first.
Pepper and cardamom open sharp, with the thyme underneath them doing something no spice could: it keeps the whole opening green and slightly savoury. Rose and ylang arrive into that, and because the top was never sweet the flowers do not read as sweet either. Cedar and dry woods hold beside them.
Tonka bean and vanilla leave it powdery, which after all that restraint feels earned rather than easy. Bleu Absolu is a floral for people who do not think they wear florals.
